2019 Senior SI Week 1 Schedule

Laguna Dance Theatre International Summer Intensive 2019 July 8-26th 2019

Three-Week Program:

Laguna Dance Theatre’s summer program brings internationally renowned dance professionals and master teachers to Mission Viejo for a 3 week,
Monday – Friday, 12-5pm dance intensive. Included in this outstanding program are daily Ballet Technique classes, Pointe, Men’s class, Variations, Pilates, Pas de Deux, Contemporary, Jazz, Character, and Dance History. This program is designed for intermediate and advanced students.  Individual coaching and mentoring is part of this unique experience, culminating in our annual summer showcase.

Curriculum: Ballet Technique, Pointe, Variations, Men’s class and Conditioning, Pas de Deux, Contemporary, Jazz, Yoga, Stage Make-up, Acting, Pilates and Dance History.



2018 Guest Teachers Included:

Rainer Krenstetter:
Principal Dancer with Miami City Ballet, Former Principal dancer with Staatsballett Berlin. Throughout his training, Krenstetter participated and won medals in various international ballet competitions including in Vienna, Brasilia and Luxembourg, culminating in his first place win at the Prix de Lausanne in 1999.

Christine Shevchenko:
Principal dancer with American Ballet Theatre, youngest recipient of the Princess Grace Award. Bronze Medal in the USA International Ballet Competition in Jackson, Mississippi, 2005 Gold Medal and Title of Laureate at the Moscow International Ballet Competition, the George Zoritch of Ballet Russe Award for Talent Recognition, the 2010 Margaret Moore Dance Award and the 2015 Leonore Annenberg Arts Fellowship.

Julio Bragado Young:
Julio danced with the American Ballet Theatre for 15 years. During that time he was featured in numerous soloist roles in GiselleThe DreamDon Quixote, and Alexei Ratmansky’s “The Bright Stream“. Julio was born in the US and moved to Spain at the age of 2 and trained with the Lycee Francais de Madrid before returning to the US to attend the North Carolina School of the Arts before continuing his training with Boston Ballet and the School of American Ballet.

Jonnathon Ramirez:
Born in Cali, Colombia, this is Jonnathan’s eighth season with Tulsa Ballet. He is a Senior Soloist and previously danced with the Incolballet of Cali, Colombia, Cincinnati Ballet and Houston Ballet.  Jonnathon also received a full scholarship to ABT’s Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School of Ballet.

Jessica Payne:
Jessica is a company member with the Tulsa Ballet. In 2015, she joined Tulsa Ballet II and was promoted to Apprentice in the main company one year later.  Jessica’s repertoire includes The Sleeping Beauty (Angelini), The Three Musketeers(Prokovsky), Romeo and Juliet (Liang), The Taming of the Shrew (Cranko), and Serenade (Balanchine).  She received first place in the Youth American Grand Prix regional competitions of 2010, 2011, and 2012.

Allison Eggers:
Allison received her Bachelor’s Degree from Bard College in
Theatre and Dance and she has been the Dance History teacher on staff for ABT’s Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School since 2013. In addition to teaching students at the school, she also works with ABT’s apprentices and the ABT Studio Company dancers.*Early Bird Discount Registration Deadline May 15th with 50% Non Refundable Deposit. The Junior Intensive offers our young dancers the opportunity to strengthen their foundation in technique, and experience Pre-pointe/Beginning Pointe*, Pilates, Character, Stretching, Broadway Jazz, Dance History and Variations classes. This program is designed to achieve strength, flexibility, movement quality, and balance for the developing dancer.

Nicola Curry – Current member of ABT
Stephanie Walz – A former member of ABT and a current member of The Washington Ballet

Class Division Requirements

Classical Ballet 

Ballet Level Suggestions/Requirements FALL 2019

 Butterfly Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Lyrical or Combo Classes Ages 3 to 5: 1-2 hour per week

BALLET IB  Ages 6+ Recommended: 1-2 hours per week, We also recommend taking 1 Commercial Dance Classes for training and coordination taking an additional dance form (lyrical, tap, jazz, hip hop, musical theatre)

BALLET 2 Ages 6+ (Must be placed by LDT staff): 2-3 hours per week, We also recommend 1-2 Commercial Classes for training and coordination in an additional dance form (lyrical, tap, jazz, hip hop, musical theatre)

BALLET 3A Ages 7+: 3-4 hours per week 2-Technique Classes, We also recommend 1-2 Commercial Dance classes for training and coordination in an additional dance form (lyrical, tap, jazz, hip hop, musical theatre)

 BALLET 3B Ages 9+: 6.5-10 hours per week, 3-4 Technique Classes, 1 pre-pointe class (must be enrolled in at least 3 Technique classes to take), 1 Character Class, We also recommend 1-2 Commercial Dance Classes for training and coordination in an additional dance form (lyrical, tap, jazz, hip hop, musical theatre)

 Ballet 3B Pointe Students/ Ballet 4 Tech: 8-10 hours per week, 4-Technique Classes/ plus an additional Ballet 4/5 Technique class, 1 pointe class (must be enrolled in at least 4 Technique classes to take), 1 Character Class, We also recommend 2-3 Commercial Dance Classes for training and coordination in an additional dance form (lyrical, tap, jazz, hip hop, musical theatre)

  BALLET 4: 11-13 hours per week, 4-5– Technique classes, 2 Pointe (Technique classes are mandatory in order to take pointe) , 1 Variation class, 1 Character Class, 1 pilates mat class, Pas de duex/ bi-weekly

Recommended: Pilates intervention program (please ask for more info)

2-3 Commercial Dance Classes for training and coordination in an additional dance form (lyrical, tap, jazz, hip hop, musical theatre offered: Jazz technique, Tap, Lyrical, Broadway Jazz, Hip Hop, or Pilates

YAGP is highly recommended

 BALLET 5: 12.5-unlimited hours per week, 5-7 Technique classes/ May take an additional Ballet 6/7 tech class 1-2 times/week, 2 Pointe classes required to remain eligible for pointe, 1 Variation class, 1 Character Class, 1 Pilates mat/ stretch, Pas de duex/ bi-weekly

Recommended: Pilates intervention program

2-3 Commercial Dance Classes Jazz technique, Tap, Lyrical, Contemporary, Broadway Jazz,Pilates mat/ stretch

BALLET 6/7: 13-unlimited hours per week, 5– unlimited Technique classes ,(We encourage students at this level to take as many technique classes as possible), 3 Pointe classes, 1 variation class, 1 pilates mat class, Pas de Deux/ bi-weekly, 1 Contemporary Class

Recommended: Pilates intervention program

2-3 Commercial Dance classes in Jazz technique, Tap, Lyrical, Contemporary, Broadway Jazz, Pilates mat/ stretch

Regular attendance is necessary to maintain your level. The office must be notified prior to ALL absences. Make up classes must be taken within the same month that the absence occurred or will be forfeited. Make ups can be taken in the students own level or the levels below. Extreme absences will result in a re-evaluation of placement.

LDT Dress Code

Classical Ballet Division and Young Dancer – Solid color leotard, pink tights, canvas or leather ballet shoes, and hair in a clean professional bun, no embellished headbands. Ballet skirts are allowed for Variations class only. No Tutus or costumes please. Students levels IV-VII are expected to have pointe shoes at ALL TIMES!

Commercial/Contemporary Division: Jazz, Tap, Lyrical, Broadway Jazz  -Dance appropriate clothing, hair up, and black or tan jazz shoes.

Revised Fall 2017 Schedule
November brings a few changes to our current class schedule. Miss Sara Silkin will be taking a sabbatical in order to further her training. We wish her well and hope to see her back soon. Mr. Anthony’s Broadway Jazz classes will be moved to Wednesday nights at 7 PM and 8 PM.

In observance of Thanksgiving
Laguna Dance Theatre will be closed November 23rd and 24th. Rehearsals will resume Saturday and Sunday, November 25th & 26th.
